Introduction

The CSD87350Q5D is a field-effect transistor (FET) array manufactured by Texas Instruments (TI). It is composed of 5 N-channel Trench MOSFETs that are connected together in series to form a voltage-controlled switch. The FET array is capable of controlling up to 3.5A sustained current, and is essentially an integrated solutions that allows designers to economize the number of components needed for their circuit. The CSD87350Q5D was specifically designed for battery protection applications.

Application Fields

The CSD87350Q5D is used as a battery protection integrated circuit. This can be used in mobile electronics such as tablets, phones, and other portable devices. The FET array can provide protection to the battery cells by preventing overcharging and overdischarge. Working Principle

When connected to a battery, the FET array is able to monitor the battery voltage and allow current to flow only when the voltage is within a safe range. If it senses that the voltage is too high, the FETs will act as a switch and block the current from flowing. Similarly, if the voltage falls below the desirable range, the FETs will open and allow current to flow.

The CSD87350Q5D features a low on-resistance of 4.6 mΩ, providing low power losses. The FET array is also designed with a hysteresis scheme to prevent false triggering when the battery is being charged or discharged.
