The IFR6623 is a single N-channel enhancement mode MOSFET from International Rectifier (IR). It is widely used in high current applications such as DC-to-DC conversion and power supply. The IFR6623 has a maximum current rating of 120A, breakdown voltage of 130V and RDS(on) of 12.6 milliohms. These characteristics make it ideal for use in high-current circuits.

The internal structure of the IFR6623 is composed of a source, drain and gate. The source is connected to the negative potential while the drain is connected to the positive potential. The gate is insulated from the source and drain by a thin oxide films which is used to control the current flow between the source and drain. This control is achieved by adjusting the voltage on the gate which in turn controls the current. A higher gate voltage results in a higher current while a lower gate voltage leads to lesser current.

When the IFR6623 is operating in the saturation region the current flowing between the source and drain is mainly controlled by the gate-to-source voltage (Vgs) and secondarily by the drain-to-source voltage (Vds). In this region, the current is limited by the on-resistance (RDSon) of the MOSFET which is typically 12.6 milliohms. Increasing the Vgs increases the current flow while decreasing the Vds increases the current.

Due to its high current rating, the IFR6623 is widely used in DC-to-DC conversion and power supply applications. It is often found in switching power supplies, DC motor drivers, and battery power management circuits, as well as other applications which require high current control. One of the advantages of the IFR6623 is its wide operating temperature which ranges from -55°C to 150°C and its low gate charge which enables it to switch at high frequencies and with minimal switching losses.

The IFR6623 is also well suited to motor control applications due to its low RDSon, wide Vgs range, and robust SOA (safe operating area). It can be used to control both brushed and brushless DC motors and provides good current regulation, fast switching, and high efficiency.
