IRF644L is a type of field-effect transistor (FET), more specifically, a Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET). The IRF644L is a vertical FET, meaning the Gate is on top and the Drain and Source are on the bottom. It is designed to be package compatible with many BJT, JFET and MOSFET PNP type transistors and has the same pin configuration as those, making it an easy substitutable for a standard NPN. The IRF644L is part of a larger family of field-effect transistors, known as the IRF640 Series, that features similar features and benefits.
The IRF644L is a low-power transistor and is capable of handling up to 500mA of current and 5V of voltage. It features a low RDS (on) of 16 mΩ, extremely low leakage current of 1 nA, and is offered with an operating temperature range of -55°C to +150°C.
The IRF644L is particularly well-suited for applications requiring low-voltage and the ability to switch quickly in circuit operations. It is an excellent choice for low on-state resistance and switching loss, low-power consumption and low-system costs, in DC motor drive applications such as robotics, light industrial and office automation. The working principle of the IRF644L is based on the effect of voltage concentration in a field-effect transistor: when a voltage is applied on the gate relative to the source, current starts to flow from the drain to the source. This current is then controlled by altering the surrounding field with the gate voltage, thus controlling the drain current. Owing to its vertical architecture, the IRF644L is also capable of providing low on-state resistance and switching loss for classic switching applications and low-power consumption in DC motor drive applications.
