IRLZ14STR is a type of insulated-gate field-effect-transistor (IGFET). It is composed of the basic N-channel junction field effect transistor (JFET) structure, laid out in a common-source configuration. As a result, this type of transistor can be used to amplify and/or switch signals.

The IRLZ14STR is an enhancement-mode type of MOSFET, meaning that it will only conduct when an appropriate source is introduced to the gate. Without a gate source, the equivalent source-drain voltage that passes through the device will remain small enough to ensure that the device remains in its off state; when a gate source is applied, the drain current will exponentially increase, until it reaches its maximum ID Drain Current.

The IRLZ14STR has a Vgs (gate-source) rating of 10V, and a Vds (drain-source) rating of 30V, ensuring that it will remain functional at high voltage and temperature operating conditions. By introducing appropriate gate sources, this type of transistor can also be used to amplify signals such as audio and video. With the aid of its drain-source rating, this type of transistor can also be used to handle high-power applications such as motor control and high-voltage switching.

Generally, the IRLZ14STR transistor is operated by connecting it in series with a gate driver circuit, which is composed of voltage sources and/or resistors. When the gate driver is used to provide a gate source, it will also be used to control the drain current by adjusting the gate voltage appropriately.
