The IRFR3707ZCTRLP is an advanced N-channel vertical DMOS MOSFET (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor), manufactured by International Rectifier Corporation. The device is designed as a discrete power switch and comes with a maximum drain current rating of 5 Amperes and a maximum drain-source voltage of 20V; it is a TO-251 package of 1.35”, 0.56”, and 0.56” dimensions (datasheet).
As a power switch, the IRFR3707ZCTRLP is mostly employed, when a quick and reliable switching response is required, with a minimal electrical noise. Usually, it is operated in applications that need to handle high currents, such as electronic equipment, power supplies, and industrial units.
The working principle of the IRFR3707ZCTRLP is based on MOSFET technology. In a MOSFET, the gate voltage (Vg) controls the drain-source current by varying the width of the conduction channel. When this channel is ‘open’, current will flow from the drain to the source, thus allowing the device to conduct the necessary current. When the channel is ‘closed’, the device appears as an open circuit with low capacitance and zero conduction.
A key feature of the IRFR3707ZCTRLP is its ‘low input and output capacitance values’, which enables high switching frequencies of approximately 10-20KHZ. Additionally, the device appears as a low-impedance device and offers considerable current gains.
