FDS86252 is a type of MOSFET which falls into the Family of Single Transistors-FETs, also known as Field Effect Transistors. This variant is an N-channel device, commonly used in power systems, with fast switching speed and high current and voltage ratings. The rated maximum drain current (ID) is irrespective of the supply voltage, making it ideal for high voltage applications. When the device is in its ‘on’ state, the current through the channel is directly proportional to the voltage applied across the gate and source - the voltage applied to control the device becomes the equivalent of a linear resistance. In addition, because the FDS86252 is an N-channel device, the current’s direction is from the source to the drain.The FDS86252 is highly suitable for a variety of applications that require great level of accuracy, fast switching speed, and high voltage and current ratings. Some of the most common applications include motor control for electro-mechanical systems and Electric Vehicle charging, switching circuits, switch mode power supply and DC-DC steps down DC converters. The FDS86252 is generally easier to use than other types of FETs because of its low gate threshold voltage (VGS(th)) , ranging from 0.8V to 1.2V typically. This means that a low gate voltage can be used to turn the device on, thus allowing the use of lower voltage power supplies. In addition, it has a fast switching response of less than 20ns , allowing devices that require high speed switching to be operated easily and efficiently.Some FDS86252s have an additional feature that allows a fast short-circuit protection, which helps provide extra layer of assurance in the device’s functionality. This feature keeps the FET in its “off” state when a short circuit is present and the device is turned on (VGS is above the threshold). Finally, the FDS86252 also provides a good level of dv/dt tolerance. This feature allows the device to pass through high speed signals without losing its functionality or shutting down. This feature is important in applications that require high speed switching with high accuracy, such as the motor control for electro-mechanical systems.
