HUF76437S3S Application Field And Working Principle

HUF76437S3S is a single power MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) specifically designed for maximum ratings of 400V in a Leadless Surface Mount package. It features an integrated parasitic diode, low on-resistance, extremely low gate charge and low capacitance, suitable for a range of applications, fixed frequency DC/DC converters, high-speed switching applications and load switches.

Function

HUF76437S3S is basically a voltage controlled switch, controlled by the input voltage. A MOSFET can be used either as an amplifier or as a switch, depending on the type of application. It has four terminals, the source, the drain, the gate, and the body. The gate is used as the control terminal. When a voltage is applied to the gate, the switch turns ON. The amount of current that can flow between the source and the drain depends on the amount of voltage applied to the gate. Similarly, when the voltage is reduced, the switch turns OFF.

Working Principle

The working principle of HUF76437S3S is based on the fact that when a voltage is applied to the gate terminal, a depletion region is created which extends from the gate towards the source and the drain. This region prevents the majority carriers from crossing. This is called the “depletion region”. When a negative voltage is applied to the gate, majority carriers are attracted in the direction of the gate. This phenomenon is called “inversion”. Inversion reduces the depletion region, thus allowing majority carriers to cross and the gate to become conductive. This is how HUF76437S3S works as an amplifier.
